Men's Tennis Sweeps Norfolk State, 7-0, for Fourth Straight Victory

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary men's tennis team won its fourth straight match, sweeping instate foe Norfolk State, 7-0, at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center on Wednesday evening. The Tribe dropped just two games in doubles and did not drop a set in singles action on the way to downing the Spartans for the 14th straight time in the all-time series. W&M upped its season ledger to 5-2, while NSU fell to 1-5.

The Tribe was given the early advantage in doubles thanks to a forfeit win at No. 3 as Norfolk State played with a lineup of only five players.  A new combination of senior Aaron Chaffee and freshman Lars de Boer wasted little time giving the Tribe the initial point of the match with a spotless 6-0 win over Igor Braga and Alex Killam. Senior Will Juggins and freshman Christian Cargill made it a clean sweep with a 6-2 triumph over Pascal Domnik and Daniel Grauel at the top spot. Juggins and Cargill ran their mark to 6-0 overall and 3-0 at the No. 1 post.

The Tribe lead quickly went to 2-0 with Norfolk State forfeiting the No. 6 singles position. At the No. 4 and No. 5 slots, freshmen Alec Miller and Luqman Ebrahim rolled to convincing wins. Miller did not drop a game in upending Terey Hackney, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 for his sixth win of the year. Ebrahim recorded his first career singles win for the Tribe, bouncing Alex Killam, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5.

At the top singles position, Cargill handed Norfolk State's Pascal Domnik his first loss of the season, 7-5, 6-2. Domnik entered the match at 5-0 in singles competition, while Cargill won his 10th singles tilt of the year.

Juggins and de Boer rounded out the Tribe sweep, improving their win streaks with victories at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Juggins won his third straight, downing Braga, 6-3, 6-1, while de Boer notched his fourth consecutive triumph, beating Grauel, 6-4, 6-1. It was Juggins seventh win of the season, and de Boer upped his mark to 5-1 in dual-match play and 10-8 overall.

The Tribe wraps up its five-match homestand with a Saturday, Jan. 31, doubleheader. W&M welcomes Ivy League foe Brown to the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center at 10 a.m., before hosting Morgan State at 4 p.m.
