CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - The William and Mary men's tennis team closed out its trip to the Northeast with a convincing 6-1 win over ACC counterpart Boston College on Sunday afternoon at the Murr Center. The Green and Gold swept doubles, before claiming five of the six singles matches in straight sets to even its season ledger at 2-2.
In doubles, the Tribe used a trio of undefeated teams and they remained unblemished. Freshman
Christian Cargill and senior
Will Juggins improved to 4-0 on the year with their first dual-match win at the No. 1 post, besting Phillips Nelson and Matt Wagner, 6-4. The sophomore grouping of
Addison Appleby and
Damon Niquet moved up a spot in the lineup and upended Hank Workman and Kyle Childree, 6-3, at No. 2. The Tribe duo is 5-0 on the year and 7-0 as a team in their careers. Senior
Aaron Chaffee and junior
Scott Huang rounded out the sweep with a 6-3 win over Alexandre Thirouin and Kent Muaki at No. 3 in their first pairing together this season.
After posting a win at No. 1 doubles, Cargill and Juggins each tallied wins at the top two singles spots. Cargill downed Nelson, 6-3, 6-3, to even his mark at 2-2 at the No. 1 position with his ninth win overall. Juggins recorded his fifth win this season, bouncing Aidan McNulty, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2.
Niquet closed out a perfect weekend with a straight sets win at No. 3. The Tribe sophomore dropped just three games in downing Hank Workman, 6-2, 6-1. He improved to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in dual-match play with his second triumph at the No. 2 slot.
Freshman
Lars de Boer and Huang rounded out the Tribe victory with wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions. de Boer won his seventh match of the year and improved to 2-1 in dual-match competition, topping Kent Mukai, 6-2, 6-3. Huang pushed his season ledger to 6-4, including a 2-1 dual-match slate, with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Will Turner.
The Tribe opens a five-match homestand when it hosts a Saturday, Jan. 24, doubleheader at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. W&M welcomes defending MEAC Champion South Carolina State at 10 a.m., before facing Howard at 4 p.m.
