W&M Shoots 6-Under for Fourth Place at Snowman Getaway

The William and Mary men's golf team wrapped up an exceptional tournament Tuesday at the Snowman Getaway, carving out a round of 286 (-2) to finish in fourth place overall with a three-round score of 6-under (858).  Illinois State shot an astonishing 15-under in the final round to tie Air Force atop the team standings at 849 (-15), and No. 36-ranked Ryan McCormick of St. John's claimed the individual crown by three strokes with a total of 201 (-15).

The Tribe reached its remarkable total thanks to not counting any score higher than a 74 (+2) all week, a distinction no other team in the 17-team tournament could claim.  It is the second-best score ever in school history, and a full 16-strokes better than the previous best this season of 862 (+10) at the Joe Agee Invitational.  Leading the way was junior Charlie Kern (Seattle, Wash.), who picked up his second eagle of the tournament on his way to a final-day 70 (-2) and a total score of 214 (-2) to finish tied for 21st overall.  Kern is one of just five players all week to eagle at least two different holes.  Rookies Davis Morrison (Charlotte, N.C.) and Austin Morrison (Charlotte, N.C.) matched each other with a second round of 71 (-1), and both tied with Kern for 21st overall.  Senior Tanner Taddeo (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was the team's fourth scorer Tuesday, shooting his best round of the tournament at 74 (+2) to improve to a tie for 83rd overall.  Taddeo improved two strokes between each and every round.  Junior Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) was just behind him with a 75 (+3) for the final round, and finished in a tie for 35th overall with a total score of 217 (+1).  As a team, W&M collected an unfathomable 64 birdies over the course of the week, including eight in the final round by Davis Morrison.

William and Mary now has the next month off, before returning to action on March 23-25 hosting the Middleburg Bank Intercollegiate.  The annual home tournament will be hosted once again on the famed River Course at Kingsmill Resort.
