Funiciello and Courter to Compete at 2013 P&G Gymnastics Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Aug. 14 2013)—William and Mary standout gymnasts Landon Funiciello and Neal Courter will compete for national titles at the P&G Gymnastics Championships this weekend at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The men's portion of the competition, which is slated for Friday and Sunday, will feature four Olympians and a pair of Olympic alternates.

The Championships will determine the World Games team that will compete at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium from Sept. 25 – Oct. 7.

Funiciello is scheduled to compete on rings, vault and parallel bars, while Courter will vie for titles on floor, vault and high bar.

One of the top gymnasts in W&M history, Funiciello is a two-time NCAA All-American on rings and placed second in the event at the NCAA Championships last spring. His impressive score of 15.675 was just 0.1 from tying for the national title.  He is one of just two gymnasts in school history to garner multiple NCAA All-America honors.

Courter posted an outstanding rookie campaign in 2013, as he became just the second freshman in school history to earn NCAA All-America distinction (Funiciello is the other) when he placed third on vault with a school-record 15.275. The ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year was just 0.2 away from tying for the national title.
