Women's Tennis Drops 4-3 Tilt at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The William and Mary women's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak come to a close at hands of Georgetown, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. With the threat of rain, the teams played singles first, splitting 3-3 with the Tribe claiming wins at the top three positions. The Hoyas though pulled out the victory, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles posts to take the match-deciding doubles point. W&M fell to 11-3 on the year, while Georgetown improved to 9-4.

Junior Maria Belaya won her seventh straight and picked up her 10th dual-match win of the season, downing Victoria Sekely, 6-4, 6-1, at the top singles position. Belaya improved to 16-8 overall, including eight wins at the No. 1 position.

At the No. 2 slot, freshman Leeza Nemchinov upended Kelly Comolli, 6-2, 7-6 (4), to push her win streak to eight matches. The Tribe rookie improved to 18-9 overall, including a 12-2 dual-match mark. Nemchinov is a perfect 3-0 at the No. 2 singles position this season.

Senior Anik Cepeda won her 20th match of the season at the No. 3 position. She rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Madeline Jaeger for her seventh straight victory. Cepeda ran her dual-match mark to 12-2.

After the Hoyas recorded wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions, the balance of the tilt came down to the doubles point. The home side picked up the team triumph with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots.
