Women's Soccer Falls to UNCW, 3-0, in Home Regular Season Finale

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William and Mary women's soccer team dropped a hard fought match, 3-0, to UNCW on Sunday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

The Seahawks converted the game's first goal on a penalty kick in the 17th minute. Katrina Guillou stepped to the penalty spot in fired the ball into the top right corner of the goal, lifting the Seahawks to a 1-0 lead.

UNCW added another goal in the 50th minute of the match. Off of a corner kick sent in by Lindsey Byrne, Morgan Leyble was able to find the loose ball. Leyble then uncorked her shot into the top left corner of the goal. The tally pushed the UNCW lead to 2-0.

After the second goal, William and Mary began to pick up its attack The Tribe had good looks and had shots bounce off of the crossbar, post, in the ensuing minutes.

The Tribe had four shots on goal in a six-minute span, but UNCW goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy stood strong in goal. Junior Aly Shaughnessy, sophomore Nicole Baxter, freshman Clara Logsdon, and junior Emory Camper all had looks, but Huddy was there on all four saves.

Later in the 61st minute, the Tribe had a pair of golden opportunities for a goal. The first came from a header by sophomore Katie Johnston that was saved on the goal line by a Seahawk defender. Senior Dani Rutter headed the rebound back to the goal, but another Seahawk defender kept it out.

Wilmington added its third match of the day in the 89th minute. With almost every Tribe player forward looking for a goal, Guillou sparked a counter attack and found Moa Jarl rushing down the right sideline. Jarl cruised into the box and fired a shot across the frame into the left corner of the goal. The goal, gave the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage.
