Tribe Football Announces 2011 Schedule

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 8, 2011) - William and Mary Director of Athletics Terry Driscoll has announced the release of the Tribe's 2011 football schedule, which is highlighted by five home games at Zable Stadium and a season-opening trip to Atlantic Coast Conference foe Virginia (Sept. 3).

Coming off back-to-back NCAA Playoff appearances, W&M will look to continue the momentum and defend its CAA Championship during the upcoming campaign. The College will return 13 letterwinners (seven offense/six defense) from last season's team that earned an NCAA Playoffs bid for the second consecutive year and garnered a national ranking as high as No. 1.

W&M will open the season at Virginia on Sept. 3, marking the second time in the last three years that the Tribe has kicked off its campaign in Charlottesville. The two teams last met in the 2009 opener, as the College earned a 26-14 victory.

The Tribe will conclude its non-conference slate during the following two weeks, as it travels to Virginia Military Institute on Sept. 10 before hosting the University of New Haven for its home opener on Sept. 17. The contest against VMI will mark the first time the College has played in Lexington since 2007, while the matchup with New Haven will be the teams' first meeting.

W&M will open its conference slate on Sept. 24 when it hosts James Madison for Family Weekend before hitting the road for consecutive away games against 2010 NCAA participants, Villanova (Oct. 1) and Delaware (Oct. 8). The Wildcats claimed the 2009 NCAA National Championship, while the Blue Hens advanced to the title game last season.

The College will continue its conference schedule with a pair of home games the following two weeks. New Hampshire will visit Williamsburg on Oct. 15 before the Tribe welcomes Towson for Homecoming on Oct. 22.

Following a bye week, the Tribe will play at Rhode Island on Nov. 5 before returning to Williamsburg for its home finale against Old Dominion on Nov. 12.

W&M closes out the regular season with a road game at Richmond on Nov. 19. The contest will mark the 121st meeting between the two programs.

Game times will be provided at a later date.
