Tribe Storms Past No. 67 Boston University

ALLSTON, Mass. - The William and Mary women's tennis team cruised to a 6-1 victory over No. 67 Boston University on Friday. The Green and Gold took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, before taking five of the six singles matches to claim the victory. The Tribe improved to 5-4 on the season, while snapping BU's five-match winning streak as the Terriers fell to 5-3.

In doubles action, sophomore Anik Cepeda and freshman Hope Johnson, who are ranked No. 64 nationally, downed Sefanie Nunic and Vivien Laszloffy, 8-4, for their sixth win of the season at the No. 1 pairs position. Senior Lauren Sabacinski and sophomore Nina Vulovich won their second straight match in clinching the initial point of the contest with an 8-6 win over Vanessa Steiner and Moika Mical at the No. 3 post.

In singles action, W&M claimed five matches in straight sets to storm past the Terriers. Johnson won her 11th match of the season in improving to 5-4 in dual-match play with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Laszloffy at the No. 2 singles position. Freshman Jeltje Loomans recorded her first collegiate dual-match win as she downed Mical, 7-6, 6-3, at the No. 3 position.

For the third time in the last four matches, W&M swept the final three singles positions. Cepeda improved her team-leading mark to 15-9 with her 40th collegiate victory. The College Station, Texas native improved to 6-3 in dual-match competition with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Petra Santini at the No. 4 singles position.

Junior Katie Kargl continued her impressive dual-match campaign with a win at the No. 5 slot. She bounced Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis, 6-2, 6-2, in improving to a team-best 7-2 in dual-match play. Kargl won for the 11th time this season. Senior Lauren Sabacinski rounded out the strong W&M singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Jessi Linero at the No. 6 post. The Tribe senior won for the second straight match.

The Tribe returns to action when it wraps up a brief stay in Massachusetts with a noon match at No. 68 Harvard on Saturday, Feb. 26.
