The William and Mary volleyball team fell in its final home match of the season Saturday night, falling to UNCW 3-1. The Tribe moves to 8-17 overall with one match to go in the season, while the Seahawks improve to 12-17 and 5-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Despite the loss the Tribe had several individuals turn in strong performances on the night, led by freshman
Manon Murray's (Greensboro, N.C.) double-douyble of 11 kills and 17 digs. Junior
Molly Krull (Raleigh, N.C.) also recorded a double-double coming off the bench, with 40 assists and 10 digs. Senior
Anne Dorff (Kent, Ohio) made a triumphant return from injury in time for Senior Night, and tied her career-high with two solo blocks while also providing four kills.
Also of note, redshirt-freshman
Monika Stanciauskas (Wheaton, Ill.) had 11 kills on a .450 attack, and junior
Shaylin O'Connell (Leesburg, Va.) had seven kills on a .385 attack. Redshirt-freshman
Paulette Grand Pre (Laguna Beach, Calif.) nearly had a double-double, scoring eight kills and 10 assists. Rounding out the notables was a pair of sophomores, with
Celine Alasomuka (Centreville, Va.) collecting 16 digs, and
Julia Swalchick (Melbourne, Fla.) scoring five kills on a .455 attack despite playing just two sets.
William and Mary will close out its season next Thursday night, travelling to Richmond to face VCU at 7 p.m.
