NEWARK, DEL - The William and Mary volleyball team put up a strong fight Saturday night before ultimately falling on the road at Delaware, 3-0. The Tribe now stands 8-9 on the season and 2-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while the Blue Hens improved to 15-5 overall and 4-1 in-conference.

The Tribe was led on the night by freshman Celine Alasomuka (Centreville, Va.), who had 20 digs and three assists to cap off her weekend. Taken with her performance Friday against Towson, Alasomuka averaged 6.4 digs per set in the Tribe's two matches. Junior Lindsay Kresch (Moon Township, Pa.) led the team with seven kills and nine digs, while senior Cassie Crumal (Castle Rock, Colo.) had 22 assists, five digs, and three kills on a .750 attack.

After Delaware took an early lead in the first set, the Tribe responded with four straight and six of the next seven points to tie things up at 9-all. W&M tied the score against 12-12, but the Blue Hens pulled away six points to break open the set. Two kills from senior Ginny Bray (Cary, N.C.) put W&M onto a 5-3 run to close the lead to 21-17, before the host team was able to scrape together enough points to finish the set at 25-18.

In the second set, it was the Tribe taking the early lead, and holding on until the Blue Hens took the lead at 6-5. Despite consistently producing points, however, the Green and Gold were unable to hold on as Delaware pulled away to a 25-19 victory. The third set was more of the same, as Delaware was able to counter the Tribe's runs and an eight-point streak broke open the set and effectively sealed the match for the home team.

William and Mary continues on the road next weekend, taking on George Mason on Friday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., before facing James Madison Saturday night also at 7 p.m.
