1987 Women’s Soccer Team Training Center

GPS Address: 221 Ironbound Road, Willliamsburg, VA 23188

The 1987 Women's Soccer Team Training Center is the practice home of Tribe soccer and lacrosse. Located next to Plumeri Baseball Park and Martin Family Stadium, the transformed facility includes both the Jill Ellis and Dillard Fields and, in partnership with William & Mary Campus Recreation, serves as a practice and game venue for intramural and club sports.

Tribe Athletics honored one of the most successful women's soccer teams in its history with the establishment of the 1987 Women's Soccer Team Training Center. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 1987 NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked in the top five nationally.

The training center features one and a half all grass competition fields along with the full competition turf Jill Ellis Field. As part of the $55-million All In campaign, the facility has been transformed with the addition of a new scoreboards, lighting and netting. The enhanced facility was made possible through the generous gifts from Jennifer Tepper Mackesy ’91, D. Scott Mackesy ’91 and John Goodenow “Goody” Tyler III HON ’11.

Formally the Dillard Complex, which was named in 1982, served as student housing before its closing in May of 2006. Originally named James Blair Terrace, the area was part of Eastern State Hospital before being leased by W&M for student residences between the years of 1965 and 1980. W&M assumed title of the complex – buildings and land - and modernized it for student housing in 1980. The buildings on site were demolished in July and August of 2021 as part of the renovation of the facility for Athletics use.

The facility has served as the home facility for the varsity soccer and lacrosse programs during the spring of 2021 when Martin Family Stadium had renovations to its irrigation system. It also hosts non-championship season competitions for both lacrosse (fall) and soccer (spring).
