Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts

GPS Address: 500 Brooks Street Williamsburg, VA 23185

Description
As part of the university’s $55-million All In fundraising plan for William & Mary Athletics, Tribe tennis received a complete revitalization of the outdoor tennis facility, which opened in the spring of 2023. The Mackesy Tennis Center at the Millie West Courts includes all new courts, elevated seating platforms, new bleachers along Brooks Street and the installation of a scoreboard, among other enhancements.

The facility, which is an important component of the new W&M Athletics Complex, was made possible by Jennifer Tepper Mackesy '91 and D. Scott Mackesy '91, both honorary co-chairs of All In, creating a state-of-the-art tennis facility that puts William & Mary on par with the top programs in the commonwealth and nation.

Jen and Scott Mackesy were both student-athletes at William & Mary. A two-time CAA Player of the Year, Scott was named to the tennis league's Silver Anniversary squad as one of the all-time top 25 players in league history. Jen made four appearances in the NCAA Championships in her time with the women's soccer program from 1987 to 1990.

The upgraded tennis facility provides a better venue for fans. The scoreboard, 14 feet tall by 27 feet wide, will keep track of play on all six courts. The elevated seating provides a better view of the courts. PlaySight camera were also added to the facility to allow for live streaming as well as film for practice.

The facility, formally known as Busch Courts, originally opened in September of 2001. It was renamed in honor of W&M and Title IX pioneer Millie West for her 50 years of service and the positive impact on the university and its athletics department as a coach, administrator and fundraiser.

The complex features eight individual hard court surfaces. Each court features California Corners, a unique design that includes quarter fences that run along the sidelines to allow for uninterrupted play. There is also a state-of-the-art lighting system to accommodate night matches. The facility has routinely hosted the CAA Tennis Championship for both men and women.
