Former Men's Basketball Standout Jim Moran Named Portland Trail Blazers Assistant Coach

PORTLAND, Ore. - With the start of the National Basketball Association (NBA) season recently, former William & Mary men's basketball standout Jim Moran was promoted to an assistant coach for the Portland Trailblazers, the organization announced. Moran, who spent last season as the associate video coordinator for the Trail Blazers, joined head coach Terry Stotts' staff.

"I am excited to add Jim to our coaching staff," said Stotts at the time of the promotion. "He is a young coach with a bright future. He has a terrific work ethic coupled with a refreshing personality. He has already demonstrated a unique ability to work with our players and he will add a new perspective for us."

Moran was a two-time All-CAA honoree during his career at W&M, earning second-team accolades in both 2000 and 2001. As a freshman in 1998, he was a CAA All-Rookie Team selection in helping the Tribe to a share of the CAA regular season championship with UNCW and a final record of 20-7. Moran currently sits 16th on the Tribe's all-time scoring list with 1,324 points.

Following his career with the Tribe, Moran played for CB Gran Canaria in the Spanish ACB League. He became the only player in team history to have his number retired and finished his career with 2,060 points, 802 rebounds and 321 assists. Moran also played for the Irish Men's National Team from 2001-06.

Prior to joining the Trail Blazers' staff as a video coordinator, Moran spent a season in the NBA Development League as a player development coach with the Maine Red Claws.

In 2014-15, the Trail Blazers won the Northwest Division of the Western Conference with a 51-31 record and were the fourth seed in the Western Conference Playoffs. Portland is off to a 4-3 start in 2015-16.
