Robinette was a star for the Tribe men's tennis in the early 1970s, going 42-11 (.792) in singles play in three years and reaching the second round of the 1973 NCAA Championships. That was W&M's only appearance at the NCAA Tournament between 1951 and 1999. His career winning percentage (.792) is the best in school history since 1970, and his single-year mark of 17-4 (.810) as a junior in 1974 is also the best single-season mark. Robinette was a two-time Southern Conference finalist and made at least the semifinal round of both the conference and state championships in all three years. As a freshman in 1972, he won the Virginia Intercollegiate Championship.
