W&M Women's Cross Country Tunes Up at Spider Alumni Open

Brittany Sevachko Top Tribe Finisher at Season-Opener

RICHMOND, VA - The William and Mary women's cross country team got the 2009 season underway in Richmond this morning, falling to the host Spiders over a two-mile course at St. Catherine's Park. Richmond's Jenn Ennis was the individual titlist in 11:23.

Sophomore Brittany Sevachko (Centreville, Va.) was the Tribe's top finisher in what amounted to a short training run, timing 12:01.2 for ninth place. Senior Robin Vanneman (Stafford, Va.) was close behind in 10th, and was followed within two seconds by Avery Mattingly (Blacksburg, Va.) and Kelly McElroy (Wyomissing, Pa.). Sophomores Kelsey Budd (Oakton, Va.) and Amelia Emerson (Nokesville, Va.) were 14th and 15th, and Kristen Dietz (Springfield, Va.) rounded out the effort in 18th.

William and Mary will continue its preseason training over the next three weeks before hosting the Colonial Inter-Regional on Saturday, September 26, at Eastern State Hospital.
