W&M Women's Track and Field Finishes ECAC Championships Eighth Among 59

PRINCETON, N.J. - The junior class led the way Sunday for the William and Mary women's track and field team as the Tribe finished tied for eighth among the 59 scoring teams. W&M and Villanova each scored 30 points over the three days, while Connecticut won the team title 88-58 over Virginia.

Complete Sunday Results

1,500m Run
Junior Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.) opened the day with a bronze-medal showing in the 1,500m finals, running an easy 4:23.15 with her spot at the NCAA Regional already assured.

800m Run
AN unexpected bonus fell to the Tribe shortly thereafter, as scratches and withdrawals gave Kelly McElroy (Wyomissing, Pa.) the opportunity to run in the finals of 800m. The junior ran 2:15.39 for eighth place and All-East honors, the second of her career after running as part of the Tribe's 4x800m relay indoors this past March.

3,000m Run
Junior Kayley Byrne (Oak Hill, Va.) collected the day's third All-East award, running 9:54.33 for seventh place and two team points in the 3,000m championship. It is the first All-East honor on the track for Byrne, who also earned the accolade at the 2007 cross country championships.

Shot Put
Juniors Ashley Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) and Carly Morse (Sumerduck, Va.) rounded out the day's efforts in the shot put, tying for 10th with identical puts of 44-3.25 (13.49 meters). As the CAA champion in the shot put, Williams will have at least one more chance at the event, competing at the NCAA East Regional in two weeks.

William and Mary's qualifiers now have two weeks off for rest and training before the NCAA East Regionals, May 29-30 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, North Carolina.
