William and Mary Picks Up Two All-East Honors Saturday at the ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The William and Mary women's track and field team continued its strong weekend at the ECAC Championships Saturday, adding two All-East awards to its haul and qualifying one to Sunday's final heats. In the team race, the Tribe held in third with 21 team points, behind Virginia and Cornell at 37 and 22 points, respectively.

Complete Saturday Results

Pole Vault
Junior Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.) again brought home silver in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12-11.5 (3.95 meters) the same as the eventual champion, but falling short on number of attempts. It is Kazuba's fourth consecutive top-two finish at the ECAC Championships, taking silver at each of the last two indoor championships and gold last year outdoors. Sophomore Emily Jeremiah (Mechanicsville, Va.) also competed, but was credited with no mark along with 15 of the 27 competitors.

Discus Throw
Freshman Natalie Baird (Sterling, Va.) picked up her first All-East honor in the discus, finishing sixth with a throw of 149-7 (45.60m), best among all freshmen.

1,500m Run
All-American Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.) cruised to the top-seed in tomorrow's 1,500m final, running a season-fast 4:20.32 to lead the field by nearly three seconds. Classmate Meghan Burns (Coopersburg, Pa.) also set her season-best mark at 4:30.41, finishing 15th, and freshman Heather Beichner (Cary, N.C.) was 17th in 4:31.15.

Heptathlon
Sophomore Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kan.) finished a disappointing ninth in the heptathlon, unable to complete the 800m run due to injury. Heading into that final event, Guevel had been on-track for a career-best effort, and stood only 49 points out of first place after jumping 17-9.5 (5.42m) in the long jump and throwing the javelin 122-2 (37.25m).

Hammer Throw
Junior Ashley Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) also just missed out on All-East accolades, taking ninth in hammer throw after a career-best throw of 173-0 (52.74m). Williams improved her standing as the second-best thrower in school history, while the woman ahead of her, senior Abby Lemon (Berryville, Va.) completed her career with a throw of 158-8 (48.36m) for 22nd place.

800m Run
Junior Kelly McElroy (Wyomissing, Pa.) ran a career-best in the 800m, timing 2:09.98, but was unable to advance to the finals after finishing 10th in the preliminary heats. McElroy is just the seventh woman in school history to run under 2:10 in the half-mile, and ranks seventh all-time at W&M. Classmate Ariel Burbey (Blacksburg, Va.) tied her career-best of 2:11.23, set last month at the CAA Championships, and finished 14th overall.

4x800m Relay
The Tribe's day came to a close in the 4x800m relay, with the team of Burns, McElroy, freshman Brittany Sevachko (Centreville, Va.), and Burbey combined to run 9:12.18 and finish 19th overall.

William and Mary will close the ECAC Championships tomorrow with competitors in three events. The finals of the 1,500m run will start at 12:15 p.m., with the shot put at 1:00 p.m. and the 3,000m run at 2:30 p.m.
