W&M Women's Track Achieves Seven Qualifiers Friday at UNC

Emily Schroeder Runs No. 4-all time 1,500m

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The William and Mary women's track and field team opened last-chance weekend Friday night at North Carolina, coming away with seven championship qualifications in the middle-distance events. The take included four ECAC-qualifying marks, a pair of NCAA Regional berths, and one qualifier for the U.S. Junior Championships.

800m
Junior Kelly McElroy (Wyomissing, Pa.) tied the team-lead this season in the half-mile, running 2:11.23 to take fifth this evening and qualify for the ECAC Championships. McElroy's time tied classmate Ariel Burbey's (Blacksburg, Va.) run at the CAA Championships, and gave her a spot at the ECAC meet for the second year in a row.

1,500m
Three athletes achieved qualifying performances in the 1,500m run, led by All-American Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.) with a time of 4:24.11. Senior Emily Schroeder (Midlothian, Va.) was close on her heels with a career-fast 4:24.37, moving up to fourth all-time at W&M with the performance. Both Anderson and Schroeder earned spots at the NCAA Regional in addition to the ECAC Championships. Freshman Heather Beichner (Cary, N.C.) nearly broke the College's freshman record, falling just short in 4:30.84 but qualifying for both the ECAC and U.S. Junior Championships with her time.

The weekend of action continues Saturday in Newport News, Virginia, at Christopher Newport University's New Captain's Classic.
