Tribe Qualify Three for NCAAs at Husky Invitational

Seattle, Wash. - The William and Mary Tribe track and field team had an outstanding showing at the Husky Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as the Green and Gold provisionally qualified all three of its athletes for the NCAA Indoor Championships later this season.

Senior Ian Fitzgerald just narrowly missed becoming the fifth man in the College’s history to run a four-minute mile on Saturday afternoon, finishing third in the mile run with a time of 4:00.01. With the time, the Glenshaw, Pennsylvania native qualified not only for the IC4A Championships, but also qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships later this spring. With his new personal-best, Fitzgerald now ranks fifth all-time at the College.

Sophomore Patterson Wilhelm also qualified provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships, finishing the 5,000 meter run in a personal-best time of 14:05.18. His time at the Husky Invitational was 11 seconds better than his previous best and also qualified him for the IC4A Championships.

Junior Emily Anderson also ran well for the Tribe on Saturday, finishing 19th in the mile run with her time of 4:47.85. With her impressive time, Anderson qualifies for both the ECAC Championships and provisionally for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Next up for the William and Mary Tribe track and field team will be a trip to Blacksburg, Virginia for the Virginia Tech Invitational, which will take place on February 20-21.
